At Google I/O 2025, Google introduced Agent Mode within the Gemini app, marking a significant advancement in AI-driven task automation. This feature enables Gemini to autonomously execute complex, multi-step tasks based on user-defined goals, transitioning from a passive assistant to an active operator.

Key Features

  • Goal-Oriented Task Execution: Users can specify objectives, such as finding an apartment in Austin, Texas, and Gemini will autonomously search listings, apply filters, and even schedule viewings by integrating with platforms like Zillow.

  • Teach and Repeat: This feature allows users to demonstrate a task once, after which Gemini can replicate the process for similar future tasks, enhancing efficiency and personalization.

  • Multitasking Capabilities: Powered by Project Mariner, Agent Mode can manage up to 10 simultaneous tasks, enabling it to handle complex workflows without user intervention.

  • Integration with Google Services: Agent Mode seamlessly connects with Google apps like Drive, Gmail, and Calendar, allowing it to perform tasks such as organizing schedules, sending emails, and managing files.

Availability

An experimental version of Agent Mode is set to roll out soon for Gemini Ultra subscribers, with broader availability expected in the near future.

Implications

The introduction of Agent Mode signifies a shift towards more proactive and intelligent AI assistance. By automating complex tasks and learning from user interactions, Gemini aims to enhance productivity and streamline daily activities.
